This recipe is not only nourishing and healing, it's also great on EVERYTHING. Yes, that's right, everything. I might even be so bold and call this the ultimate condiment.
I created this recipe for my previous cooking club and it was such a hit. Now not only am I hooked, but so is my family... kids included.
So what makes this recipe so healing? The turmeric. Turmeric has an active constituent called curcumin which is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. And in this day in age, with busy schedules, stress, and environmental toxins, we seriously can't get enough of both.
But there's a catch to using turmeric properly so that you can extract and absorb the curcumin and reap it's benefits. What is it? FAT.
You see curcumin is actually fat soluable, so in order to have your cells absorb it, it needs to be attached to a fat. And in this recipe there are two fats: olive oil and tahini. This way it get absorbed into your blood stream and heads for your lymphatic system. Add a bit of fresh black pepper and you've then increase the bioavailability dramatically.
What also makes this sauce so nourishing is the raw garlic. Did you know that garlic is antibacterial, antifungal, anticarcinogenic, antiparasitical and helps to improve digestion and promotes healthy microbiome? It's true. The list of health benefits from garlic is long. And when there's a long list of benefits in certain food, make it a close friend. And one last thing: the key to getting all these amazing benefits is eating it raw... like in a sauce perhaps!
This sauce may be yellow, but it is creamy, smooth and so flavourful. I can't get enough. Look at the many ways it can be used:
Seed bread, hummus, red pepper and topped with yumminess!
Leftover roasted root veggies, avocado, kale pesto (recipe in my Daily Detox with Food ebook) and topped with creamy goodness.
Sauteed kale, brussel sprouts, hummus and yellow heaven.
AND this sauce is ahhhhmazing on top of eggs. Like so so so amazing.
I've also added it on top of pasta and chicken. I could seriously go on and on and on, but you kinda get the point. It just goes on anything basically.
- 2 Tbsp tahini
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 -2 garlic cloves, pressed (depending on how much you love garlic!)
- ½ tsp sea salt
- Place all ingredients into a mason jar.
- Give it a stir with a fork and the place lid on tightly and give a good shake.
- Store in a cool, dry cupboard for up to a week or in the fridge for longer.
