If you don't already know, I'm kinda in love with matcha. Ok, ok. So maybe not kinda and more like TOTALLY in love with matcha. However, recently a new love has entered my life: Moringa. Have you heard of it? Oh goodness, this is one to definitely add to your pantry.
I really believe that when you tap into what your body needs, it will lead you to food to fill that need (no, I'm not speaking about French fries, although, they can be necessary at times!). I'm more speaking about a deficiency that's building or lack in the body and if you tune in, your body acts as a wise guide, leading you towards foods that will build you up.
Tuning into my own body has always something I've been good at. Ok, not always, but definitely for the last 10 years or so. I do not fight it, I listen and act with my instinct. This is actually how moringa entered my life. I had been feeling low in energy (well, lower then normal since I haven't slept in 7 years. Ok, a mild exaggeration, but you get the idea) and was curious about my iron levels.

As women gracefully age, we tend to become more deficient in iron. This doesn't mean anemia, it just means it's lower than what it should be. The other thing is symptoms can be mild. For me, I was experiencing weakness in my body while exercising, which almost felt like there wasn't enough oxygen in my blood (does that make sense?). I was also feeling colder feet, more colder than normal given I live in the great white north.
The point here is that when your body feels out of balance, don't ignore the call or your instinct to act. It's a warning. When we act on warnings, prevention happens.
Here's what you need to know about moringa:
- It's high in iron, magnesium, vitamin C, A, B6, protein and essential amino acids.
- It's a strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.
- It may help in balancing blood sugar levels
- 1 3/4 cup boiling water
- 2 tbsp raw cashews
- 2 medjool dates, pitted
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp matcha powder
- 1 tsp moringa powder
- Throw all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy.
- Pour into your favourite mug, sip and enjoy.
Have you tried moringa before? What are your favourite ways to use it?
