Strawberry Lemonade

I've been making this drink since last summer. Its so incredibly refreshing and thirst quenching. Perfect for a warm day. We served this sweet and sour lemonade at my daughter's sugar free birthday party instead of juice. The kids loved it.

I'm always amazed at what kids will eat if it's offered. As adults with our palates already defined, we often assume kids might not like something. And since most of our palates crave sweets, we program our children's tongue the same way, without even realizing it. I've even caught myself adding too much raw honey to my kids lemon tea... old habits die hard. But my son, who LOVES lemon tea, prefers it slightly sour. But I've only realized that from watching his reaction and experimenting with adding less raw honey. I've had to build my own awareness and realize that their tongue isn't programmed like mine was as a child. They don't need the same level of sweetness in their food. However, if I'm not aware, I could program their palates to want extreme sweetness. For me, that's where it all starts. Bringing awareness about what's in our food and what we put into our bodies.

Ingredients:

  • 2 lemons, juiced
  • 3 cups frozen strawberries
  • 6 pitted medjool dates
  • water

Directions:

  1. Juice lemons into a high speed blender. Add strawberries and dates. Fill with water to completely cover ingredients plus a little extra. Ingredients should be able to float.
  2. Blend on high for about 1.5 minutes. Serve immediately... because it's too good to wait for it anyways!
